Japanese Maple Dropping Leaves?

Walked out this morning and noticed something fall from my second-year Fireglow Japanese Maple. I realized it was a leaf and that there were several on the mulch below it. On closer inspection, there are some black or curling leaves on parts of the tree. Any ideas?

Sorry.. Zone 6 NE Ohio. It's been really hot but also exceptionally wet this year. The tree is on a hill so should not have an over wet issue.

Spotting on JM foliage is typically due to uneven watering - allowing the soil to dry excessively, then a heavy watering. If you can keep the soil consistently moist (not wet), you should see much less of this. This would also account for some early leaf drop.
