We've only had ours since May, but it has performed flawlessly.

So glad I saw this; I've now spent a while looking at this washtower. I also am concerned about the bending for the washer - I'm tall, old, have bad back. There were also some mentions about having to get down on the floor to manually drain the water - did I tell you about my bad knees, lol.

But it looks like a perfect solution otherwise for our miniscule laundry room. Or, I go back to the laundry center I had years ago (mine was Maytag, no longer made, alas, just GE and someone else) because it's a top load washer and easier on the spine.

Too low! would you question whether a dryer is too low that is on a side by side setup with a washer? Never saw a dryer that has the opening at the top of the unit.

Better to consider whether the Wash Tower will fit your closet; I have taken down the bi-fold door long ago for the stacked Frigidair Affinity; the LG replacement the same way with the edge aligning just at the door frame; not concerned with the looks being visible/open.

Yeah, I'm also "older" with osteoarhritis, etc & do get on my knees to dig out the laundry at the back of the washer; my only "concern" is that sometimes I get reminded of the Linus cartoon where Linus is in the front load washer because Lucy stuffed him inside.

Using the LG Wash Tower is a dream for me as there is a heater to get the water HOT. This is my 3rd washer & have only limited experience with owning a washer;

just know I perfer a front loader. the last apt had the "huge" 1.5 cu ft Whirlpool laundry center & it was a pain to use, but it came with the apt & was free.

Again a person need to find something that fits in their laundry closet and most likely looks OK if the door is removed if needed.

The washtower is an all in one unit I believe. That does not offer good value for your money. Inevitably a dryer will long outlast a washer, and with the washtower when the washer's useful life is ended, you are faced with replacing both appliances, and not just the one that is no longer operating. If money is no object, I that is okay, but it still is a future outlay that could go towards something else.

stacked vs "laundry center. For replacement of a washer, can you find the same model? if not can you find a bracket for stacking the old dryer as there is no vesa 'standard' for mounting; or are you handy enough to make your own? or OK with just have the dryer sitting on the new washer?

Have the washers been upsized? & would the old dryer on top of the washer fit under the door frame? If no bracket, able to slide the stacked unit comfortably in the laundry CLOSET? Have someone helping to unstack the old dryer which may be around 200 lbs or would ti be left to the delivery persons. Is it worth it to keep the old dryer which may be too small for the bigger load washer if the new washer was up sized?

Saving the old dryer sounds cheaper & nice but there will be differences & more for people with laundry ROOMS; like many posts say do the machines side-by-side but have not seen or referred to side-by-side units that fit into a real laundry closet unless the home/apt is designed for a unstacked laundry machines. Still it all depends on the size of the laundry closet & what will fit. I could not find any washer/dryer that will fit under the door frame that will be 2 to 2.4 cu ft capacity and is readily available considering how hard it is currently to get appliances.

With 11 yrs with my cheap Affinity, the ROI is good enough that I am comfortable with junking the dryer. At the 5 yr point I was willing to junk the small Maytag 2.2 cu ft washer & dryer as I felt I got my moneys worth at the 3 yr mark compared to using the laundrymat for the same time.

Well, the LG Washtower is a unitized design, rather like Speed Queen's SF7003, and that means we cannot readily swap out the washer for a replacement or a newer version. That's the trade off armjim was talking about. Now the positive tradoff for unitized design is that the dryer controls are placed in the middle of the stack, right above the washer's controls. That makes them easy for pretty much anybody to use. With a "stacked set," however, the dryer controls will be something over six feet AGL ("above ground level.") That can be very inconvenient for the vertically challenged. Whatever you choose, there are always tradeoffs and sometimes there are workarounds (although those, too, often embody tradeoffs, too.)

When a compact dryer is stacked on a matching compact washer, the dryer controls won't be quite as much of a reach as on a full size set ---- maybe about 6 inches lower -- but that still may be inconveniently high for some. Plus, the compact front load washers are shorter than standard size models, which may raise a concern for those who find their wash drums too low for their preferences/needs.

Which brings me back around to Cheryl BKaun's original question: "Is the washing machine [in the washtower] too low to the ground?" The answer is: some people will find it too low for them, others will not. It really is a individual thing.

So, is there a floor model on display at a local retailer or big box store near you? If so, you can find out if it is too low for you by bringing a laundry basket of various sized towels and maybe some washcloths. See how it feels for you to load and unload the washer in the Washtower. When unloading, try moving the towels up into the dryer.
