Help with exterior

H!

We just bought this home (built in 1965) and the exterior definitely needs some love. Just for reference and searching ideas, how would you characterize the architectural style? Also, what tips do you have for shutters? We were thinking a dark navy blue, but my understanding is that triple windows shouldn't have shutters, but I think it'll look pretty odd if all the other windows do. Ideas? Finally, any ideas for making the porch more appealing.

Any pictures of ideas would be much appreciated.

I would remove all the shutters, and the siding below the windows. I would also remove the porch. install a raised panel style panel under the windows (if there isn't any brick siding)

a good grooming of the shrubbery and a serious evaluation of the landscape. I would invest in a landscape architect for a long term plan. Decide what 'style' you really want to live with.

It is prettydifficult to get a true picture of the front because it appears that there is a window behind the one shrub? Are you flipping this home, living in it, rental? How much do you want to spend?

i agree with the previous poster that all shutters should be removed. If you are going to live here I would get a professional landscape/ hardscape plan. That would give the home a greatly updated appearance. If it will become a rental I would keep the landscaping very simple especially if the tenants would be responsible for upkeep.

For a flip you obviously want it to look nice in order to make it more marketable, but you likely do not want the cadillac of landscaping. I would not do anything to the porch unless you plan to live there.

    For starters, remove those bushes.

Is it a side to side porch? If so, I'd raise it to the top level of the stairs under portico. If there is no side to side porch, I'd add one at the top level of the stairs under portico. Does that make sense?

The first thing I would do is remove the overgrown shrubs. But I think you should also look closely at the grade near the house. It appears it is above the foundation level on the left side. If it is, you should have it regraded. Brick walls will not stop water penetration.

Here is you house with dark blue shutters, called Gentleman's Gray by Benjamin Moore.

Here it is without shutters and the panel painted tan.

Thanks everyone! We are in the process of getting rid of the crazy bushes. They actually covered the other side before my husband started working on them. We plan to live in it, so we might not get to everything all at once, but we'll get there. In the long run, an architect might be consulted to come up with something for the porch and to discuss larger/longer windows.

Super helpful to see photos with and without shutters. Thanks again!

How long is the porch and at what height is it at?
