Yeah I'd go with "general crispiness" .... which would be a good villain name for a movie. During this time of year all of mine are looking haggard even if I give them constant watering.

They are a newer purchase and I originally thought it was just sun damage but then started reading about the nematodes and thought it looked an awful lot like that too. I got them for only $8 each and would kick myself if I infected other plants in my garden because I was such a cheapskate!

Agree, nothing to be concerned about. If you are new to JF, I have found they overwinter better if I leave the foliage on them. Yes, it will be black and slimy but I’ve lost a couple that I cleaned up. Since I’ve started leaving the foliage until new growth in the spring I haven’t lost any.

I am brand new to brunnera and bought six of these for a shady border. I’ve had problems in the past with heuchera not over-wintering, so I hope that doesn’t happen with these too.

lovemycorgi -- regarding getting heuchera thru the winter, you might try what I have done for years -- place bricks next to the plant (not on the crown!) to provide some protection from heaving. It works quite well for me, not 100% but about 90% depending on the winter's actual conditions. I'm in Central MA zone 6-ish.

roxanna7, thanks, I will give that a try if I ever plant heuchera again! There are probably some cultivars that are more reliable than others, I should do some research. I planted Peach Flambe and it heaved. I pushed it back down in spring but it was a goner. Purchased it again and the next spring, same thing. No more Peach Flambe for me!

While cold hardiness is good, I can't keep Brunnera alive in my sandy zone 4 yard. One is hanging on, but never amounts to anything.

For northerners having trouble with heuchera, I'd suggest the Northern Exposure series. Exceptional performance here in MN.

as i recall .. and plz.. anyone disagree ...

there are billions of nems in any given tablespoon of soil ... majority of them are irrelevant to your plants ...

and those that might not be.. are plant specific ...

so i would think.. that you arent going to infect your whole garden with them ... since they are most likely there already ...
