Did they include installing the appliance pulls for that price? They should have because it is done at the same time. I've seen it done on 2 SZ integrated columns and it isn't as easy as just screwing in some panels. Lots of adjusting and leveling. If they are certified installers of SZ and the other brands, then I would go ahead and pay their price.

Undecided whether I'd pay that but is there a separate charge for installing the appliances? Sometimes included, sometimes not as SZ requires all to sell their product at MSRP.

Likely involve moving each appliance for near perfect flush install (as much work as the panels themselves).

We often have to make adjustments to these after store provided installers are done. Specifications for some brands are unreliable so they are measured after delivery.

Jeffrey, during my last remodel I used SZ, Wolf and Miele. For SZ and Wolf the appliance store recommended SZ/Wolf certified installers to do the installation and panels. The Miele products and panels are installed by Miele service guys. Both sets of installers charged a separate amount for installation. I think you get a year extra warranty if you go with their certified installers ... don't remember the details!

Supposedly the largest amount of service calls happen right after installation, which is why Miele has installation as an in-house department. Get it installed correctly and you get less service calls down the road and happier customers.

When we built (3 years ago), we had the store who sold us the appliances do the install of the panels (3 dishwashers, subzero freezer and fridge panels). There was NO extra charge apart from the install charge)….but what a fiasco! Although this was supposedly the installers specialty (installing custom panels), they made so many mistakes and retries, I had to get 2 new dishwasher panels and they had tremendous difficulty getting the panels on the subzeros and on correctly. It was painful to watch. If the specific manufacturers of each appliance actually do installs, I would definitely do that. They know their products. There is actually a lot more to installing panels than simply screwing them on. Trust me, you need an expert for this task.

@chispa Yes, always certified installers whether included by the dealer or hired by us. Wolf/SZ does add time to the warranty.

Most early warranty service calls we've seen are unrelated to install. An installer who operates the ranges, cooktops and ovens prior to leaving could easily reduce service calls.

Do you have anyone else that you feel is competent and ready to do the job?

I did a gut remodel and am still having certain jobs done like tiling my balcony. I am having the job done through my GC and I suspect that I could get it done marginally cheaper if I wanted to go through the hassle of bidding it around.

But what I am getting for paying a bit more is knowing that it will be done correctly and and that the workers in the house are reliable and pleasant to deal with - leave my home every night tidy and do their best to make it as non-disruptive as possible.

FWIW I have paneled appliances in my kitchen and my cabinet maker fabricated them and installed them along with the pulls.

If I were in your position I wouldn't think twice about hiring a completely reliable hassle free company to do the job at $300 per panel. I assume they are also going to be doing the actual installation and delivery and so you won't have to deal with any potential passing of the buck because you will be dealing with one source for everything. That is worth a few hundred dollars in the scheme of things (assuming you could actually find someone cheaper).

I install for several cabinet company's they pay between $300-$500 per appliance with hardware. So yes it's fair.

I'll warn you that more times than I can count I've had calls to install them after someone decided to save a couple dollars and use their handyman. Most of the time they have to go to the finisher for repair. The $1,800 can turn in $4,800 really quick.
