Where do you live? I have grown both as hedges in Southern California/LA. Eugenia grow fast and tall! Problem: they drop berries--which drove my husband crazy. Top them and trim them and you will be happy! Privet: I love Privet for shaping into spheres. They are slower growing as hedges but their dark green color is always beautiful. Problems: they blossom in the spring and bees come for a few weeks. They are harder to shape then Eugenia. I've never had rodent issues with either...

Ortochini, did you end up planting the Texas Privet? What size did you end up getting and how far apart did you plant them? Like or Dislike? I'm in the same boat. Torn between Texas Privet, Eugenia and Podocarpus. I'm in San Diego.

We went with Texas Privets in 24” boxes. They are planted maybe 2 feet apart each. They look nice but I think they’ll grow slowly…
