Am I stuck with this layout?

Soon to be my kitchen, no measurements yet. I would love an island, but I think the space is too tight. Is it possible to extend cabinets/counter closer to the window, while leaving enough room for our small kitchen table? Or should we just upgrade the layout that’s there? We plan to do floors, counters, sink, etc either way.

Can’t say much without measurements. How many people/how much seating do you need? Any other dining room? Perhaps extend the counter like you said and add counter seating with no table.

if stair wall ends there ...maybe a galley with counter run opposite stove wall run. skip the stools . you want a table and have the nice patio door section . nice big family room there...thats where people go. eliminate the peninsula completely. you appear to have width between stove wall and how many inches out?? for another run opposite. ??? measurements are needed.

My kitchen currently is the same layout as yours, (ours is 16.5ft long and 10.5ft wide) dining area is included. We’ve decided to get rid of the peninsula and run the cabinets all along the wall, no room for an island but our table has to stay in the kitchen as we have no other dining area. Hoping others with same layout will chime in, we’re still in layout phase but I’d like to see what others come up with.

Depends on the amount of $ you have and what you are wanting.

What is it that you desire the most? Please list. Island? Large dining area? More cabinets, etc.

Also, I am peering into the other rooms. It looks like you have a formal living room and a family room. Would you be willing/budget allow you to

    a) move the kitchen wall into the formal living room area, making kitchen larger.

    b) move the dining area into the living room space.

In other words, looks like you have ample space, if you are willing to think about the other rooms.

To further help, I would need a floor plan, your budget and your wish list 😀

Hopefully, you'll live there for a while before deciding to do anything. The problem with the kitchen is that it is a main hallway - so 3 feet of the width is devoted to passageway.

Maybe look around to see if you could switch the kitchen with another space in the future?

Thanks everyone. Should have more detailed measurements in a few weeks. There is no other dining area, so we need to keep our kitchen table. I am open to possibly using the front room to extend into. Really would love an island for the extra counter space. But agreed, looks to be too narrow with the hallway pass through.

What's under the stairs? Can that space be used for storage?

Unless you take out the wall and peninsula, and put an island parallel to the outside wall. My hunch is that your passage is too narrow for that anyway.
