Beautiful kitchen! Ours has White Dove cabinets with a Hale Navy accent wall. I would normally say a different counter on the separate bar area would be a nice accent...but since you have a dark base cabinet and gray accent wall next to it, I wonder if the dark soapstone look would not be enough contrast. I think I would just keep the counters the same and let the navy cabinet and gray accent wall be the focal points. The counter you chose is very pretty and will look nice with the navy and gray. That's just my 2 cents.

I think a wood counter for the bar would bring some warmth to the space and tie in nicely with your floors. After all, bar tops are usually wood (in restaurants and actual bars) and this would be the perfect spot for that.

Hi Linda … I was going down that path as at the bottom of the bar is a walnut wine rack. However I will have a vintage credenza underneath the tv on the grey wall. Is that too much wood?

We originally thought of doing our small coffee area with a different countertop but changed our minds and made it the same as the rest. When it was installed, I could tell right away it was the best choice. It brought that area into the rest of the kitchen and looked complete. I think the separate counter material would break things up too much. I vote for same counter all round if possible.

I would keep the counter the same throughout…so order some more. You already have two different colors (Hale Navy/White Dove) on your cabs and the wall with the wainscoting next to the bar area is yet another color. Adding a fourth color/element IMO is too much.

Love the feedback everyone!!! I think I’ll stick to the plan. Fingers crossed the counter guy can have enough so that I don’t need to purchase more! No backsplash for the bar … this is more an added counter buffet / drinks space for when we entertain. I’m planning on putting a nice piece of art in that space.

I disagree - using a different top - or not - either would be fine. It isn't part of the kitchen proper, so differentiating could be fun. Maybe finding a really interesting stone. Another option would be to change it up and put the same counter on both sets of blue cabinets, tying it back to the kitchen a bit. I dont think there's a wrong decision.

Check with your stone provider. You don’t need much for the top of the bar. Perhaps you can get a remnant of some spectacular granite that incorporates gray, white and blue! Maybe even Azul Bahia? If not…the same material will work for this counter. But I would try and have some fun with this.

My opinion is to have it the same counter.
