first.. it is sept... no matter where you are.. hosta are tired.. and ready to go dormant ... look at the newest leaves.. and if they came out after light change.. they may be more accustomed to new light patterns ...

next.. consider water needs changed .. due to more light ... soil heat ... more wind over the soil surface.. etc ...

i would see how the hosta does next year.... without moving it ... but if you want to.. go for it.. either way ...

the other plant.. again.. its sept.. and it looks like the oldest leaf.. i would call it tired ... and getting ugly.. again ...

water deeply late into fall.. to make sure your plants go into dormancy and winter.. with fully hydrated roots ...

and i am presuming the elephant ears will over winter in NC... it wouldnt for me in MI ...

OK, thanks :-) I keep reading about armyworms on the news, so it had me nervous ;-/ We had cicadas earlier this year, too, that did a LOT of damage to my trees (and may have ruined my Japanese maple), so pests have been on my mind.

I have sprinklers set up in this area that run 20 minutes every other day. They're also both alongside a 1,000G goldfish pond, so humidity should be on the higher side, too.

And yeah, elephant ears do fine over our winters. They die down, of course, then come back in May or June. For the most part people give them away here; they divide every year so they become overwhelming pretty fast! We do the same with irises, you can't throw a rock without hitting an iris, and when the rock bounces it'll hit an elephant ear! LOL

I always see the same ones locally, though, so I'm not sure if the black or purple ones do as well here. I'd love to trade some of these for other colors to balance things out, so maybe I'll post it in one of the trading forums.
