Hi, renovating an old 1890 house, we are both young and had no idea the risks of asbestos (thought it was only in commercial building, insulation, etc). Very naive i know.

Anyway we removed carpet floor to find an old linoleum / vinyl floor and then used a scraper to get off the vinyl and it seperated leaving the backing sheet on the floor, we left it there to just be covered with self levelling compound down the line.

We had visitors some 6 weeks later and talked them through our renovation so far, when one asks if we got the vinyl and backing tested for asbestos, so removed a small piece of the backing and sent for tests and came back posititve for Chrysotile.

We have covered the floor with screed now and have damp wiped down everything, used a HEPA vacuum and purchased a HEPA air purifier.

But we are freaking out about how bad our exposure has been, there was limited dust when scraping off the vinyl top layer but it was a 3 x 3 metre room, and we have since lived unknowingly in the property for 6 weeks before realising our mistake. Any advice on how bad this is or anything else we could do when cleaning up?
