I grow a clump in moist and part sun conditions. These were started from seeds that I winter sowed and they have done well.

I put some in some cardinal last year, I love the color but the singular flower spikes looked weird to me. But, this year they're throwing multiple flower spikes and I like them a lot better. I will say -- there's nothing like that flamin' red color!

Anyway, mine are located on the north side of the house. Most of them do get some sun for a couple hours a day, catching either the morning or evening sun. Some of them are in moister locations than others, but they all seem to be doing fine. None are in really dry soil, though. So, I'd say part shade and semi-moist to moist soil suit them well based on my limited experience with them.

Ahh sweet_betsy, to have an AL winter!! I lived almost 7 yrs in FL & I miss warm winters!! Here in IN they arent as bad as stories Ive heard about winters in the past…(Ive only been here a decade) but since Ive lived here, we we dont get much snow. We still get a few -10 days in January & Feb. most winters. I dread those days. 😢
