I like a painted door and a little bigger, more transitional airy chandelier. IMO coat hooks are useful but I dont care for the bulky look. You could add a piece of art that speaks to you for color without getting in the way. No mirrors.

What do you need to make it more functional? It's difficult to tell from the photos how much room you have to work with. I'd definitely want a small table near the door. Some people want a bench and place to stash shoes and coats. If a mirror would make it more functional for you, I wouldn't hesitate to hang one!

There is literally no room to even open the door.. and I was thinking even if I were to add a tiny shelf for keys.. or something..

With no room, your best bet is to tuck something small in either or both corners. Measure the available space you have on both sides of the door, then look through images of small corner table and/or corner shelf storage and find one that you like and that will fit the space you have.

Paint the door and replace the chandelier with something more modern. We have the same issue that the door basically opens into the stairs and when we have guests we have to side step. The flow is terrible. What do you need to make it functional for your family?

I guess I have to ditch the idea of making it functional.. more pleasing should be the goal.. unless I want to extend the entrance! 😂
