I’m in the process of remodeling my cape cod style home. We completed the stone chimney veneer over the winter and we’re about to begin the framing process. When we installed the flashing, I had my contractor install the flashing such that it would provide a 16” overhang at the gable side of the house, which I planned on wrapping around the house such that I can provide the front entrance with 16” overhang.

The roof pitch is 9/12. We’re going to extending the overhang and provide a tapering pitch at the eves to compensate for the additional overhang.

I plan on installing crown molding on the gable fascia boards and bedmolding at the below the soffits on the frieze boards.

Im a bit concerned that the 16” overhang all the way around may be too overzealous. Hoping that someone can share their thoughts and experience on overhang sizing for cape style homes. Pictures of homes with 16” overhangs will be helpful.

The white trim around the chimney is within the plane of the frieze board, edge of the flashing is the edge of the overhang.
