I’d just redo the hearth.

Otherwise here are some ideas:
Whitewash the current brick, because it’s a scale we know works.

Or pick any tile that you like and remove the mantle to give you more space.

Thank you for ideas we are converting to gas logs and chimney sweep has been here. i will have glass and screen in it fireplace with a border that wont cover brick. hearth has some cracked tiles so would definitely like to change that. if i keep the red brick-which i would have to try and clean-what color tile? you dont like the stacked look. would a mixed size tile do it? have added more pix thanks
