Sink tailpiece pipe coupling

last modified: 4 years ago

Recently I was organizing the cabinet under the sink. Next day I noticed there was a leak under the sink. I found out that the tailpiece pipe had split halfway. The ends are still connected securely. However, the pipe just seems to be split half way in the middle. The cut is clean so I am not sure if there was a piece that was holding the two pieces together or the pipe just has split into two.

Do I need to remove the tailpiece pipe and replace it with a new one? Or is there way to secure the two existing pieces? The bottom piece of has a slight smaller diameter then the top piece. But I am not able to slide it into the top piece.

I have attached some pictures for reference. Thanks for any suggestions.
