We recently purchased a home in Texas that comes with saltillo tile throughout living room, kitchen and 1 bath. The home was built in 1985 and the tiles are original. (see the first photo).

Does anyone know how I might be able to get the tiles to look like the second picture posted here? The second photo is a renovation I saw on a blog featuring another 1980s home and that is the look I am trying to get. Open to staining, sealing, whitewashing etc. I believe the tile used in the second picture is new saltillo and the stain/wash was picked at time of installation (it's not old flooring that has been refinished).

And product recommendations are welcome as well.
