Selling or buying this home?

Well, this may be the one time I think leaving the shutters would work-you might want to make them wider so that proportionally they would actually cover the windows if they were functional.

Did you paint your brick gray? I'm concerned that without the shutters, the grey color coupled with the grey roof will result in a "concrete bunker" look (which has happened to several houses in our area).

Landscaping is needed, not a porch. Plus, designing and adding a porch to a ranch is an architectural challenge that will require the work of a SKILLED architect. Any DIY efforts will look exactly the way you think they will. Someone 2 streets over DIY'd a porch onto their small ranch and lordy does it look awful, but I'm sure they're pleased as punch because it gave them a covered outdoor space. People can easily overlook aesthetics when the end goal is reached.

Why do you want a porch? For function or because you think the house needs one? It doesn't...for curb appeal; plenty of homes have curb appeal without porches.

I agree. Nice landscaping ( more interesting ) would be the biggest improvement. I think wider shutters on just the two smaller windows at each end might work, in a different color perhaps.. i don’t think adding a porch is necessary or even desirable.

Unless you repave a new driveway (which’ll be pretty costly) you don’t have much room for a porch.

I think it would look fine if you had more space, to do a coveted, ground level porch. But you’d have to invest.

Other than that I agree with the above on adding some more landscaping, something a bit more. I’d go with some boxwoods.

Landscaping -- deeper beds of more interesting plants instead of a long row of same-same. Chose a color for the front door? Overall, nice house with lots of potential that's not too bad right now!

We just bought this home a few months ago.

Thanks for the input! The shutters were custom made for the house by the carpenter who also built our kitchen cabinets. I don’t think my husband would be ok with taking them down 🙂. This is the kind of “porch” I was envisioning, many other ranch homes in my neighborhood have them and they look beautiful.

Look at the roof line and eaves of the inspiration and compare against your own.

The shutter color doesn't go well with the paint. I'd be very careful with a porch addition. If you don't get the proportions and style right it will look bad. A wide porch is going to be difgicukt with your windows, becaause they will interfere with furniture placement.

Shutters are wrong height and width. If they have to stay, add some similar wood accents such as a bench. Your door would be better off white or a bright color. Adding another wood tone is off. Great house though. Love the brick.
