bathroom flooring

We want to update bathroom flooring in our smaller 2 baths. What might go with our hickory flooring currently in living, family room and master bedroom? We like rustic or farmhouse kind of style. Any suggestions?

A slate tile would look quite nice, or any stone or tile with earthy tones and satin or matte finishes. Avoid marble looks and glossy finishes.

Thanks and this would look nice meeting hickory wood flooring? The bathrooms are smaller with approximately 30-36 square feet of flooring

Why not? Choose the tone of whatever flooring you put in based on the color of the hardwood. Slate pretty goes with all of it, and not all slate is a super-busy mishmash; some are quite uniform and visually quiet. Bluestone is another option. Pics of the adjoining areas would be helpful to guide posters' replies.

    Here's a very sedate slate:

It's the color of rocks. How can it no go with wood?

I love that brown pebble in the second pic above, but earthy brown tones may be a little trickier depending on the color of your floor -- tones are everything here (and avoid pink or peachy browns at all costs).

I like that gray look. Unfortunately the bathroom is small with 33” vanity single sink and walkin shower at the end. We want to keep and update shower, vanity and flooring. We would love to expand bathroom abit as we have 7 foot by 7 foot closet

What does the size of the bathroom have to do with the flooring/overall aesthetic feel of the space? If your idea of "rustic" is along the lines of the pics I posted above, that's pretty much your color scheme and material choice -- earthy tones, wood, stone, and non-glossy surfaces. If your idea of rustic is something else, posting pics of what you're going for would help. Maybe what you want is modern farmhouse with its expanses of white?

But still -- note the charcoal grey floors.

Just a question, if we wanted to add a soak tub how much would the bathroom need to be increased?

I just installed a gray porcelain tile in my master bath that has texture like slate and I love the way it looks. Bring home some samples to look at against your wood floor to make sure the colors work together, but a mid-tone gray should work.

There are different sizes of tubs available and you can have them with a surround or freestanding. If you want a freestanding tub, allow enough room around it so you can clean behind it. Once you decide on a size, see if you can carve some space out of the adjacent room for it. Or do a tub/shower combination with a nicer tub than you currently have.

mik, you're going to replace the flooring but leave that shower surround?

what about the vanity? is that staying too? honestly, I'd replace that before I'd replace the floor tile.

find a second hand oak vanity for sale, paint it. add a remnant top to it, make some wood shelves.

pebble rock mosaic tile is an idea. pretty inexpensive. find an antique wood dresser and modify it for a vanity. shelves, hooks, shiplap,,,all very rustic

you know you can paint that floor tile, yes?

    Paint w/a stencil , before/after

    before/after

You could get this stencil, paint the floor tiles, find a new vanity, or find a second hand console, dresser, and modify it, bring in rustic elements

as for soaker tub, you mean combo or stand alone?

need wider shots of both bathrooms

We would love to keep shower stand alone and add a soaker tub separate
