Personally my luck has been dismal when growing tomatoes in containers (maybe just me?). By late season you almost have to water containers every day as the large plants in a container can suck it dry almost daily and require consistent watering for balanced moisture. My "advice" for next season would be to enrich your clay soil with organic matter/compost now and plant the tomatoes in that ground next year. Or do both methods to compare results for a future strategy.

I think they are for growing wacky weed if you get my meaning - but the bags are beautiful and my plants look great - have used them for tomatoes, lettuces, potatoes, and a fig tree

How convenient , instead of throwing a trap over them one can relocate their wacky weed when mom comes to visit then drag the bags out after she goes home.

IMO tomatoes are better grown in ground or if in container it should be large as possible. My reasoning is tomatoes are sensitive to moisture fluctuation which is easier to smoot out hills and valleys with lots of soil. I have experimented with Hugey beds and found if moisture slowly declines and increases over a longer period the effect is less dramatic than when occurring in shorter time.
