For that style, I would suggest minimal (1 vertical and 1 horizontal) or none. Especially with your blinds being 2 1/2". It will be beautiful.

What about a casement window like this? Since you are mostly looking through the lower part of the window, your view will be unobstructed and you'll have the muntin look.

If you want a clear view, why are you putting 2" blinds on them? You'll be looking through those, as well; if you don't want to look at them all the time, they are more of a pain to keep raised and then lower when you want privacy or darkness than cellular that would almost disappear or even draperies that would be mostly out of the way.

We have a lot of allergies in our house and the 2" blinds are easiest for me to keep dust free. I've had them in the last few houses we've been in and am used to raising/lowering them (I get the cordless, which are a breeze).

Thanks for the suggestion for the different grilles just on the top. I hadn't thought of doing something like that.

Casment windows will look just nice with all the design and setting as advised by Olychick.

What type of muntins are you planning to use? Simulated Divided Lites or Grids Between the Glass? What window manufactures as some muntins are better than others?

Does your house only have one side? Base your decision an every window in the house, not just the windows in the front elevation.

Do you plan on using the front porch for anything other than getting people into the house? The windows shown at the porch appear to be casement windows which swing out. They may encroach on the activity that takes place on the porch. Double hung windows may work better there and be be more appropriate for the desired style of the house.

I agree with Mark. Double hung windows are more appropriate to the style of the home. I suggest grills in the top sash only which would be common for Craftsman/Bungalow style.

A friend lived in a neighborhood of traditional New England style homes. They had gorgeous views out the back of the house. So they used grilles in the front and sides of the house, and left them off in the rear.

IMO if the interior is going to be modern , then no muntins in the windows anywhere .

I designed a Prairie Style home with Prairie grills in all the windows for a client. The client decided on his own to save money and only have grills in the windows on the front elevation only. Now that the windows are installed, he realized how his attempt at cost saving has destroyed the character of his home. The front and right side elevations are both highly visible where character of each elevation can be compared. His ounce of money saving cost a ton of architectural character.

Thank you, PPF, for pointing out that the windows are not centered on the gable! There are a number of "little" things that are off and need to be addressed soon. I'll add that one to the list...

I was experimenting with a different roof and windows.
