positioning nightstands by window

What size/type of nightstand do you think would be best with the window being so low? From the floor to window is 20in. From the bed to window is about 17.5 in. From floor to mattress height is about 24in. Is there a rule with nightstands by the window? Should I get a night stand that expands the entire window frame 38in. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Yes get a nightstand that covers the entire window.

Would you consider hiring a carpenter to build low cabinets that span all the way from the walls and stopping just shy of the bed? That might be a better look than nightstands as it might look like a true design intent instead of trying to cover up a problem.

I’m in the same situation and and have opted for nightstands same width as window but with open shelves on top and drawers on bottom. Will also have lamps with clear bases so as not to obstruct the windows.

I have thought about something below the window but haven’t thought to hire a carpenter

My only issue with it bellowing just the span of the window it seems too far from the bed to reach. 🤔

What do you think about get something built like this but to span spanning that whole space?

Is it possible to put the bed on another wall without windows? That would solve your problem nicely .

Stands should arrive at mattress height, so you'll have to cover the window sills to have your tables look right with the bed.

We thought about that but a different wall blocks the entrance. The other wall bed frame would be too tight because the bathroom entrance is on that wall.

Is there an opportunity to put your bed to the wall without windows? this way you can easily choose any wall light and that's it

I would choose something wide enough to span the entire space.

This would have been so much easier with a King Size Bed. I agree that the chest should be 3 drawer bachelor chests or something of equal size. Get chests that are about the same height as the mattress.

They have to be placed close enough to the bed to reach them. Adding drapery panels on the window will help a bit with the spacing.

If you put draperies on the windows, you can have any size and style of nightstands….assuming there are other windows for some natural daylight. You need to be able to reach what is on the nightstand (from the bed), such as a lamp or tissues or your current book. I would consider drapes made with a patterned fabric and adding an upholstered bench or loveseat at the foot of the bed.

Thank you so much everyone! This helps sooo much! The bed frame and mattress is actually a KING! The wall is just really wide…I really like the design with the drapes and the higher nightstands!

I'd suggest going with custom built nightstands or being ok with reaching a little to your nightstand. Drapery from floor to ceiling will help layer that situation as well

It seems your options will most likely be getting custom built ones, or night stands that are large enough to span the window, but also be reachable from the bed. Hanging drapes on the windows should help as well if you end up buying night stands.

My night stands encroach on the window on either side of my bed and there is no functional or aestetic issues but I wouldn't go any higher than 20 - 25" and you will have to be deliberate in picking the lamp for the space, how big, wide and the materials will really affect how placement looks below the window. BeverlyFLADeziner provided you with some really great examples which were likely helpful.
