Where would the new second entrance be located?

Also have these columns in storage but thinking the scale may be a bit too large. The are over 10’ high and at least 12” square

A better and wider porch would be a place to start, then. Another alternative would be to make the first floor entry through the sunporch, although it is nice to have two entries to the unit. I know this was not a question but it may be better to keep the kitchen more flexible with a table rather than an island.

I have no ideas, I just think it’s great that you’re able to save elements from a building destined to be demolished and use them to add charm to another older home.

Peel off the asbestos and re evaluate. Typically I avoid adding doors as it changes the ‘history’ of the house so dramatically- entering though the porch or rear would be preferable. I also avoid adding on detailing. With the asbestos gone a new simple entrance porch will be enough to jazz it up. And landscaping.

What is the current entry arrangement? If it is a cold area, it's better to have the outside door enter into a foyer with the doors to two separate apartments.

A table would be better than an island, I agree with @palimpsest. Also, try moving the washer dryer closet: any kids who want to use the washer and dryer would have to go through the parents' bedroom to get there.

Adding a second means of egress is a code requirement. It will also help with moving furniture in and out of the second floor unit. The immediate neighborhood has no specific architectural style and the house is clearly nondescript and I would like to change that. If the house had historical significance or any character at all I would work with what was there but in this case I’d like to give the structure presence, charm and character

This was my original thought however I feel like the porch is out of scale and being a rental on a main road I have concerns about clutter being left in the porch by tenants and possible conflicts between tenants over use of the porch so I’d like to keep the porch area to a functional minimum.

The stone for the wall across the road frontage is being relocated from another property that is being redeveloped- considering adding a circular drive as well

The house doesn't have bad proportions. It does have blah and mismatched paint, gray utility stuff in the front and no landscaping. Fix that and it will look fine.

If moving the utility stuff is hard, just plant a shrub in front of it. The shrub can be plenty far from the house.

I'd plant flowering evergreen foundation shrubs, like rhodos (check for evergreenness) and Mt. Laurel, unless the house faces south.

Taking into consideration some suggestions I wonder if this option might work.

Creating a small “porch type” structure that would cover the stairs, ease the elevation transition and disguise the fact that a second entry door would be added.

It may also add some interest to the front of the house
