If people want something decorative behind the range, they do it with tile. Surely there is some other spot in your home for artwork that won't get it dirty, greasy, or be a fire hazard.

A backpainted glass piece may be an option.

One thought comes to mind: grease.

Why not get one of those tile pieces of art they are usually made up of several tiles in a frame. Myself I dislike anything but backsplash, the same as the rest of the kitchen, behind the range except of course no quartz there.

Because we could never decide on tile for the kitchen backlash, I hung a mirror over the cook top in previous home. The mirror material was not made of wood. It looked like stained wood, but was some other material. I never got more than a speak of grease on the mirror, and it was very easy to clean. The iron people figures did get dirty occasional, but easy to wash off with soap and water.

I have an induction cooktop and I very seldom fry anything. I like the way an old handpainted tray looks for a bit of art.

Cleanable, heat-proof art is totally fine hung behind a stove. Ceramic and metal pieces are obvious choices. :)

I'm hanging tin ceiling tiles. It will keep my white backsplash tile like new.

I had art behind mine in a house I recently sold and it had been there over a year. I sealed with an epoxy spray to protect it and it was fine. I doubt seriously that anyone would be hanging a Van Gough in thier kitchen so if you hang an inexpensive piece of art what does it hurt if you seal it to keep it from fading and to make it wipeable? I actually got the idea from a lady who works at Home Depot because the tile art is very pricy.
