How to Stop my Ducks from Stampeding

I currently own 17 subadult Buff Orpington ducks, and whenever I get near them in their run, they stampede to get away! When I do eventually pick them up, they have scratches all over their feet, and have ruffled, torn or broken feathering (though that may be because they're molting). How do I stop them from hurting themselves? They have sharp talons, and I worry that they might blind each other due to stepping on and over other ducklings.

My first questions would be how large an area are you keeping your flock in and what type of flooring/ground cover do you have? Are the scratches on the top or bottom of their feet?

I suggest you post your question on this Poultry forum and include the answers to my questions. Once the home page opens, click on 'Forums' at the top of the page, then scroll down to 'Other Backyard Poultry'. Someone there should be able to answer your questions.

Thanks for letting me know about the poultry forum.

We have a 16ftx16ft geodesic dome, with a grass flooring, and we move the coop almost every day.
