These things have to be accounted for with opening size and the company I used for doors ( they go all the way to full custom) had a semi custom upgrade where the style on the part of the door that stayed in the pocket when the door was closed was wider than the style that came out of the pocket first so that the panels ended up centered when the door is closed. When using a standard panel door you have to fiddle with the opening size to get it visually as close as possible. I would not be happy with your result.

We just had 5 doors installed, they are perfectly centered (without the trim) in the doorway. They are incredibly smooth when opened and closed. If that was the result of any of the doors in my home, they would be redone. Mailprocessing is right, the contractor should be embarrassed and not making ANY excuses for that installation. It is clearly wrong. Insist on the right door size (because thats the issue). Its his problem.

Clearly this is wrong- he Installed the wrong size door in the pocket- for instance it’s a 30” opening with a 32” door. The door only needs to stick into the pocket 1/4” when closed.

The wrong door for the space who chose the doors ? IMO that door should have been made for that purpose so probably a custom door ir at least a different size that is why you see pics of it the way you wanted.

Nonsense. Pick a standard size door and size the opening to accommodate that particular door.

If for some obscure reason you wanted to specify a custom door width, process is still the same... select door size and size the opening.
