the problem with descriptors like that.. is what does PARTIAL SHADE' really mean ....

if 8 hours is full sun ... is two hours of direct sun partial ... or is it 6 ... or what if you have clear blue sky above and no real direct sun ...

lack of proper sun can affect vigor ... they might grow slower.. or sparser .. not as full.. etc.. but unless it is a grotto nothing is going to die due to lesser sun ...

but.. flower color can be off a bit.. the darker it gets.. but usually being cooler.. flowers might last longer .. so there is a plus ...

all that said.. its a rose of sharon.. how hard whould it be to grow it.. lol ...

i dont know what you will see at the link.. but thats pink to me... not lilac ... but color perception is personal ... and light level dependent .... what looks pink during the day.. may well look lilac in the evening or morning ....

Yup, looks pink to me too...and partial shade is so vague I agree.

That's why I was hoping someone actually had some experiene with one of them.

I like the single color- no red center...that's different.

i should have added .. that many things that are called 'shade'.. have water issues ...

e.g. like hosta.. they transpire.. give off water .. sweat if you will ... so if they are in too much hot afternoon sun ... they give off more than they can pump from the roots.. so they get brown and crispy ... so we suggest to give them as much sun as possible.. avoiding the heat of the day..

and of course.. where you are.. dictates when the heat builds to critical mass ...

if you can plant them so that by noon they are in shade ... that would probably be the trick in PA ... as it is in MI ... and some sun at dusk is ok ...

as noted.. color is subjective ... but if the lacking of the red eye is what is interesting to you ... perhaps you just ought to try one... what the heck.. go for it ... odds are ... without such you will enjoy the plant.. even if it is pink and not lilac ...
