Can you help me style a daybed?

Hi houzzers!

I am rearranging some rooms in our house. This room will be used by our college-ages daughter when she is home (summers, holidays) and used as an office/ guest room otherwise.

I would like the daybed to be “zoom-friendly” for when it’s used as an office - which to me means that the bed will look more like a sofa than a bed.

Because the daybed/ trundle is upholstered in a gray fabric (that could be difficult to match), I think that means I should use a gray/ white textured or patterned coverlet (but am totally open to suggestions). If that direction is good, I found this Ugg Koolaburra coverlet. I would like color in the pillows.

The teal chair and daybed stay. The current bedding and silver wall wire thingy are going away. The purple/ white pillow and blanket on the chair can stay or go. I pulled out some art that can go in that room, too.

Do a fake background for zooms then no need to change things . IMO a simple bedding the same color as the daybed uphostery will keep it from looking like a day bed So mice large eiro type pillows in a color that works can then be added to the back it will give the lllusion of a sofa .

Please provide photos of the other side of the room so that commentors can suggest possible other layouts. Here are some thoughts:

--Redesigning should focus on office needs more than on guest room temporary needs. There are ways to do both.

--Put a desk or a shelf all the way across the window wall so that you have daylight falling on your face for Zoom meetings, get daylight and a view while you work. This idea, though not necessarily this style. You can go Ikea, Etsy with hairpin legs, and put your files below, or a low chest or file drawers that your daughter can use as a dresser. (If there's a closet in the room, then organize it so a small dresser can go in there.)

Thanks, housegal. Here is a photo of the other wall. I think this is the only place for the desk. It’s in front of a window so that feels good. If I put it in front of the other window, then the trundle bed can’t open. Advice on styling the shelves (and an office chair) are most welcome. Thank you!

A solid color cover for the day bed will be more zoom friendly.

Bolsters would likely work better than throw pillows:

Velvety fabric seems dressy, imo cause bed and nailheads make a tailored look. So does the wall trim.... might be ok with textured window shades.. but not with casual cottons...

None of the daybeds pictured work for me. They are too deep to sit in comfortably. You can reduce the depth by adding deep bolsters or by attaching a rectangular 'box' to the wall that the bed slides under during the day -- and out when used as a bed. (My college dorm room had a wooden back along the length of the bed with storage behind sliding panels across the front of the box.)

Not a daybed, but I used to make my bed like this and I liked the way it looked. I have two big exta firm pillows at the back that are wide enough that I actually use instead of a headboard. I feel like that and the solid quilt and pillow cases make it look more couchlike. So in your case I think you would just need two big pillows for the back and a matching quilt and it would look good.
