So we are looking to redo our family home in Kansas. It still holds very true to the era it was built in (60s), in a lot of quirky ways (which I love!), but its time to really give it a facelift. At this moment, the house has about 9 different flooring types from roll-out vinyl, to carpet, to hardwood, but we are wanting to find something a bit more consistent throughout the home. I’ve read that in mid-century homes, kitchens usually had their own flooring that was typically different from the rest of the house, and that holds true in our case. We have in our kitchen a dark brown roll-out vinyl that is meant to look like tile. We want to change the flooring in the kitchen, but the problem is that we dont know which direction to go in next! The kitchen has these gorgeous dark wood cabinets thoughout it that are bit overbearing but we really want to find a way to work with them.

-Should the kitchen have its own flooring? If yes, should it include the entryway?

-What type of floors would compliment these cabinets? would wood-like flooring be overwhelming next to the cabinets? a fun/funky true to mid century era tile? something else?

-Which tones would work for a floor in the kitchen? warm or cool?
