is it wood or vinyl? if its wood I would take it back and stain it. if its vinyl I would leave it as it is and then paint the door so it becomes the focal point. Do you like the light fixture, it has an awesome mid mod look so if you like that stay with it, if not changing that can inpact as well. at some point your front door was changed i think, I would remove that dental molding when you do paint.

would help to see the whole front of the house, too, as that colors the choices for this part.

only part that seems suboptimal to me is the ceiling of the overhang, which looks a bit worse for wear and which is poorly matched to the stone and brick. a few shades darker would go a long way...

Paint it light tan, the lightest from the stone colors. Replace the door mat with a much wider mat. Remove plastic toys. When you are ready, replace fall pumpkins and wreath with winter decorations.

I love almost everything about this porch, and would change very little. update the color for anything that's painted brown. fix the damaged details (like that box under the eaves on the upper right). consider getting a new door that's period appropriate -- the craftsman door is pretty but does not belong here. but if your budget is tight, just paint it. I'd keep the sidelight, porch light, and bricks as is, they're very cool.

then find better storage for the sports equipment, such as a long, low wood box that could double as a bench. this one is from Ikea:

Paint the door the same color of your siding; this will lighten up the area.

Thank you all so much! I am grateful for the input. I am leaning towards painting the dark brown wood- similar to the light grout? I would like to rip the half torn carpet off the cement block landing as well. I bought a 4x6 rug and a few lanterns. Toys and pumpkins will be gone! I would like to replace the door- any ideas? I am terrible with this. Also would you paint the brick and stone? Of course I want a clean- creamy White House but not sure if that would look good?

Also would you add a railing to the side of the porch for a more finished look?

Also hoping to remove the horrible flower like window above garage and replace with a window we can actually see out of! If anyone has light suggestions I am looking to change those as well!

I think you could Romabio the brick, and leave the stone around the front window. bring in a trim color that coordinates w/that stone. it's hard to see. any pictures w/the sun behind you? or during the day?

I'd also look into doing a copper overhang (or a metal) over that bay window. that asphalt is not doing anything good!

Trim out the bushes so you can see the entire window. update the flower beds.

are the trashcans always there? maybe build a shield enclosure for them?

there is more to curb appeal than the front door!

does this slab slope toward your house? thats a no-no. you don't want sitting wateragainst your foundation/brick. I'd get that fixed.

I love that idea! here is the back of the house- that light brick is the same as the addition over the garage. Trash cans etc all belong along side the house. They were not supposed to be there! Also the front has hydrangeas which look great in the spring/fall/summer. Winter is their worst season.

Would adding a more sophisticated porch along side the house be a good addition?

I think the romabio on the brick would upgrade it for you. would blend in w/the white balcony too.

here's the overhang idea I mentioned.

obviously real copper will be pricey, but, if you buy it in a sheet roll and do it your self, it wouldn't be that much. or, just get regular metal roof in the copper color. or, you could also do a cedar shake.

for trim color, try one of these bronze shades

or anything that goes w/the stone

your porch is fine, but that garage door is thoroughly meh. painting might help. I think a dark charcoal with the same undertone as your roof could look good for this and your front door. or an off-white that matches the other trim.

I also agree with you that the flower window should go. and it's kind of a big blank brick area there. a very large window would look great, something with 3 or 4 panels. no grids, it's not right for that house.

I tried a version with a modern garage door with windows, and it seemed kind of too stark for this home. this is a midcentury home, but it's not exactly MCM.

I was thinking the porch could go along side the house/driveway- like an extension of the front door landing? We have this space that I have put chairs and a table before.

I just noticed the narrow windows to the right of your door have dark frames, while the bay window has white?

on that entire house, how many windows have dark frames vs white?

Should I change the trim to the urban bronze color? If so can I leave the roof color? We still want to put in a window in place of the flower.
