Hi!

We used a waxed finish on raw steel for this!

Renaissance wax is what we used, specifically.

The same wax was used on the rusted areas. We sprayed the rusted areas with a water solution, allowed it to rust, then waxed it.

(Note: This technique is fine for areas that are not going to get wet. Over time you'll need to reapply the wax or the patina finish could rust.)
