That is not a custom cabinet maker’s work. That is a beginning woodworker with delusions of grandeur. Find someone who has actual cabinet making and finishing skills, and get rid of this fraudster.

Really and waht the heck is a security screen cabinet. I have a small security system camera sits in a counter in my DR almost invisible unless I want to use it. That whole mess is going to make you crazy , who designed the kitchen?

I am already feeling crazy just thinking about it 😭

Not trying to be challenging, but shouldn't what is appearing on your security camera be displayed on your iPad or phone or tablet? I do not understand why you need a cabinet dedicated to a security screen. And what if you are not in the kitchen, but want to see what is on the security screen - do you then have to walk to the kitchen to see? I guess I am not understanding your set up, but in any case, my recommendation is to re-purpose that cabinet for something else - can you get shelves in there and a door on it? You could use it for actual kitchen use.

I have no idea what a security screen cabinet is, and to the sink being off center what do the plans say? Who designed the kitchen?

We have 6 cameras installed around the house and on a small ipad it wont show properly. I also like small screen somewhere on the counter so i could hide it if i want but that was not the option and i had to get 23” big. I also have access on the phone if i am not in the kitchen. This is very common in my city almost all the houses have it Below is the pic to show what I am talking about

That's pretty horrifying to want to have in your kitchen.

A little googling told me this is in British Columbia, which surprised the heck out of me. Nobody I know living in NYC is as frightened to live in their homes, as the OP.

Our tenant brought flammable materials in the basement and lit our house on fire and ran away. Thanks to our neighbour’s security cameras and police criminally charged him

The problem with features like this is that technology changes so fast. (See the folks wondering what to do with their intercom.) There must be a better way to see and record your cameras.

Are there drawings showing the placement and measurements of each cabinet? I'd want the sink centered on the window. Check the drawings and show them to your contractor, so it can be fixed before it's too late.

I am really confused about "security screen cabinet"... you say that as if it's so common everyone would automatically know exactly what that is. I don't know ANYONE who has such a thing, nor anyone who would want one. And I have friends and relatives all over the country. It seems outdated...

OMG I live in British Columbia and I know no one who has this type of system and many of our friends live in multi milliom dollr houses wit good security systems just like mine why would you have to go 23 " makes no sense and you spent all this money on security and maybe some should have been spent on a KD

I spoke to my low voltage guy for and he said i can pick size for the screen from bestbuy. What size should i get.

I had a long meeting with my kitchen guys and they will be fixing all the problems except for the security cabinets. We cant think of what to do

If you really want that screen, then to have it look like the inspiration photo you posted, they need to trim out the cabinet to fit the screen. In a proper kitchen design (as I have learned in this forum), you would have provided the actual specs for the unit a long time ago. The "23" screen" you mention is not nearly enough information to custom-make a cabinet. What is the depth? Is that the screen from corner to corner? Are those the EXACT dimensions of height and width?, etc. Looks to me like you need to be able to slide it in and out, because the screen probably won't last as long as the kitchen cabinets...

Nothing about having the work done is a stumper, though. You just need better (more experienced) people on the job.

I live in British Columbia as well and have never heard of a system like this. I also vote for a KD

My builder recommended and said he worked with him for many projects 😣 At this point all i can do is think of ways to fix this problem.

I still have option of choosing a smaller screen or maybe an ipad on the counter. I am open to ideas for this problem

Can you tell us some more about your project? I don't like the inspiration picture you are showing, but not sure that is your actual product.

Built-in screens should just replace the panel in the door. So the rails and stiles will still surround the monitor. If you are using a tablet monitor with a USB-C then you will only have one cord that is routed inconspicuously in the cabinet. You will have the full functionality of a tablet, including sound and touchscreen. If you are just using one of the monitor screens you have route power and hdmi, but still pretty easy.

In either case, you have the full functionality of the cabinet as the monitor is only as thick as the insert panel (they are usually 1/2"). These typically don't weigh anymore than wood panels so if they are properly mounted, will feel mostly like a regular cabinet door.

The equipment and recorder should ideally be mounted nearby but in a less premium space.

    ---

If the above describes your project, then I would not change the monitor size, as the cabinet size should have been designed by adding the rails and stiles to the monitor size. I do think eliminating the monitor altogether is a great idea.

ETA: any monitor is going to have a lifespan less than your cabinets. So this is really one of those custom features that is unlikely to stand the test of time. IMO, you will be much better off figuring out a good location for a wall mount.

Tee, so sorry to finally learn the reason for your rebuilding. I'm glad the culprit was caught on camera for you.

Also glad the kitchen problems were fixed. That sink cabinet placement was a no-brainer.

Regarding the security screen, I vote for your option of having it as a laptop. I agree that this will make replacing it much easier, and the technology does change very quickly.

And finally, I wish homeowners didn't have to police the work being done. It's so frustrating to have to be there every minute to make sure things are done properly.

Well it is IMO always the homeowners job to oversee the build . As for this issue what is the low voltage guy got to do with this issue?

KL you have no idea how frustrating it had been. I have fired a previous builders because they took 1 year to only put the roof up and the next builder is exactly the same. He never shows up to the job site and isn’t even overlooking the project. At this point i have accepted my faith and only treating someone who will go through paperwork with the city. 😣😣😣

Why? Another reason to have an Ipad sitting on the counter ther eis no reason for low voltage for a security system,

Have you actually understood the issues with building a home during this Covid mess. The builders can't build with no materials which BTW are still hard to come by. Roofing ? We have homes here still waiting for roofing to repair storm damage from last summer there is nothing to be done but wait. Just a crappy time to build a house but you seem to be in the home stretch so good luck

Yeh we did consider the delays due to covid. The company was very dishonest and constantly lying and deceiving. They told me trusses have arrived and roof work will start on July 5. Another senior manager accidentally mentioned the truss are not ordered yet. When I took it to the insurance company they were also shocked because they were also told all the material have arrived after months and months of pushing them. It took them 8 months to submit the purchase order. The day they ordered trusses it arrived in 2 weeks, Roofing work was sub traded and this other company took only 3 days to put the roof up. Ever since we have fired them we didn’t come across any delays due to covid ( i guess just been lucky) It took me 3 months to get to the finishing stage and it took the other company 13 months to clean up the job site and put the roof up. Due to this delay and the house was exposed to the constant rain and now my whole house is tilted which i found out now while installing cabinets and doors.

My insurance guy sent a group of five real specialized contractors to come up with estimates for repairing our water-damaged kitchen and dining room. They were so helpful that I hired all of their companies for the job. I drew up my own plans for the layout, based on what had already been there. And I always hang around while work is being done in our house….with my plans, my own level, my measuring tape, and my pointer finger. No regrets. Minimal out-of- pocket expense for me.

It's interesting that some places are affected with covid-related supply shortages and others don't seem to be. I have not heard of any problems near us. Business is booming for home improvement. I'm sorry, Patricia, you are having terrible problems where you are.

And Tee, you have really been through the wringer. Sympathies! I have had relatively good luck in comparison.

I wish I knew how to run my team at work and run a bunch of workmen at home, but I just haven't figured out how to clone myself. I was advised on HOUZZ by pros that I should expect better oversight from the contracting company. I asked my architect for a company I wouldn't have to ramrod, as advised by pro contractors. I sure hope I can pay for the oversight that allows me to focus on my job.

I have done the oversight myself for other projects, but it meant I had to depend on people at work more than possible right now.

You might could use that cabinet for a pair of side by side vertical cabinets for baking pans -- pizza, cupcake, cookie sheet, shallow baking pan, etc. and have the camera be behind the vertical divider.

    https://www.kitchensource.com/cabinet-organizers/na-trasta.htm

Or, if you are a wine drinker, you could put two narrow vertical cabinet doors with glass fronts beside a center vertical that will house the camera.

Or, put a shelf just above or below the camera wiring and put the camera above or below that one shelf.

Read more comments including about your home's tilt. That should be unacceptable to you and the inspector and the lender, to the builder and builder's insurer and any local and state agencies that are directly or indirectly involved in licensing and permitting for home construction. Suggest full stop to explore your remedies and options.

If your build is insured by you or your lender or if the builder is licensed and insured, see if you can collect for all the rain damage and all cost of any/all repairs, including a permanent fix to the tilt. If you don't build on a solid level foundation, you're not going to be satisfied with the results ... ever. Make waves -- in a calm, matter of fact way -- and do it now via every possible avenue before it is too late.

Thank you Suezbell i will look into this issue more in detail. The builder who was responsible for the tilt is no longer working on the project. We just dont want the city to stop the construction.

Our entire family have suffered so much in this past year that we just want to put an end to this and go back to our home and start our life.

That's pretty horrifying to want to have in your kitchen.

I'm with you. This isn't even remotely appealing to me.

Tee, so sorry to finally learn the reason for your rebuilding.

Yes, this is horrible, but a camera wouldn't have stopped him -- it only allows for prosecution after the fact -- and, realistically, the fire investigators would have been able to figure out that the fire started in the basement. The neighbor's camera just made prosecution faster.

I wonder whether the effort and cost are worthwhile.

You are right. It might not stop someone from doing such a horrible thing but i think its just a sense of security that we would have an evidence incase something happens. The other use of these cameras are incase we are not home, we can answer door bells and also see who is at the door. I am also not really in favour of displaying screen with cameras, it feels like I’m in a security room of some building.
