Open floorplan...lighting help!

Our casual dining room is going to be right by the kitchen...about 10-12 ft away from each other. Looking to do something with a coastal feel throughout the home. Should I do the same pendant lights above both kitchen island and dining table, or can I go completely different?

Was orginially thinking of a open latern style over the island and something funky over the dining table like a palm frond pendant spray painted turquoise or coral.

If you want something funkier either do a funky color. Or a funky style. I wouldn’t do both as I’d personally feel overwhelmed by it. Makes sense?
Look at Dana Gibson lighting. Sounds like you might light that.

In my opinion, the first lamp is rather conventional and the second lamp is very unconventional. You will need to be careful to create a unified and cohesive look in your home. That is not to say make everything match - just make it look like it is in the same house with the same type of style. Unless you are going with a totally eclectic look.

The palm frond fixture would probably require an hour or careful cleaning every other week.

Here are a bunch of different designs we have done. Please notice the lighting in each design and how it pairs/goes with another fixture in the same design. We think if you do the funky one, you might consider doing another funky fixture instead of doing some normal in the kitchen.
