    HI
We did this a few years ago but I think it was about 5'. It was a 9' ceiling. Most chair rail is 32" to 36" from the floor. Wainscoting is usually, 36, 42, 48 high. The homeowner had us go a little higher and I like the way it turned out. I think each situation is unique, We normally make a "mock up" with tape or wood at varying heights to help our clients decide. If you are using plywood I would use 32" pieces so you can get 3 per sheet or 48" pieces so you can get 2.
    Thank you
