Roof leaking and water dripping on your bed from the ceiling like that the house is not safe to be in regardless of asbestos or not. There will be mold behind that ceiling and walls shortly if not already.

Thanks. The owner send company and they are coming soon, so i am not worried about mold, they will fix it, i am concerned about asbestos and wondering whats the chance house that year has some under roof or that ceiling and if it might be on the things the water was dropping. The rain stopped but just worried the asbestos there in the air and things. Plus I am worried the workers will just tear it apart without any concern there might be asbestos. As i am not the owner i have not much to say how it should be done as i do not want to loose this place for rent. Just wondering how much danger I might be in at the moment and later when they will be fixing it if i need to rent a room in a hotel right away or its just ok to stay here.

@Stax thanks! I am more looking for advice from someone who might have some knowledge or experience with this situation. I am sure there is someone who might know what are the chances of asbestos insulation in 1931 and how much asbestos could get into that water or what to do. I can't test as I am renting. So really I have no idea what to do so asking for any advices.

What Stax said. Asbestos was around back then. Was it used in your house? We can't know. If you have renter's insurance (you should have) it should provide you with alternate housing until the repairs are made and the property is safe to occupy. If you don't have it, you might contact the Red Cross to see if they can provide a motel voucher for you. Just be sure to put your landlord on notice that you have this concern, and won't return until the repairs and associated cleanup are completed.

A 1931 house in California might not have any insulation. No one can tell without testing if asbestos is even present in any materials. However, as someone who worked as an environmental engineer in the asbestos area, I can tell you that the likelihood of any measurable asbestos fibers being released due to the dripping water is essentially zero.

Over thinking things. If you owned this home what would you do? Act to protect your stuff. Move the bed (or flip up the mattress), remove any wall stuff that is getting wet. Then wipe up any water or put pots/buckets down to collect water. It is quite unlikely that at this point there is even any asbestos in the water. And if there is it will get dumped out with the water. When the repair is made by your landlord it becomes his (and his contractor’s) responsibility to assure that proper care is taken to lessen the risk of asbestos and lead (which would be a greater concern, IMO) exposure.

There is a test for it and in your case in that much old house you cannot be sure and if it is wet then no problem at all.

I hope you were able to figure out a safe plan regarding your home. @ramona1976 would you have any insight regarding water leaking through popcorn ceiling that has asbestos? I too am worried about the potential asbestos fibers that couldve travelled down the walls with the water leak and dried off on my walls and a lot of personal items. For example, should I be worried that there are asbestos fibers on all of my belongings that got wet? ty in advance for any of your help!

Every post that nina S has ever made has been about her fear of asbestos. She is extremely paranoid.
