January week 1 let’s do this

What an exciting week. Time to write our script for the new year. Garden plans, ordering seeds, expectations.
We had significant deep freeze here preceded by a substantial rain. My cilantro may survive. I did not cover it. I saw a picture somewhere where you get cheap dollar store umbrellas clear plastic and stick it in pots. Seem like good coverage.
My pipes are frozen at 20 degrees.

Happy New Year.

I just started another tray of microgreen (indoors) the other day and will be starting my leeks any day now. Will need to wait until it's above freezing out there (the potting soil is currently frozen).

I wonder if it's too cold to plant lettuce seeds? Our nights are in the 30s, days in the 50s.

I guess, but here in the Central Valley it's easy to just put the seeds in the ground and not worry about transplants. I have microgreens I grow in winter and they are in the house.

Kate, could you cover them with plastic or something?

Some of my romain wasn't able to survive the high 20s we had a few weeks ago.
