Should I knock out this wall?

I'm doing a mini (ish) kitchen overhaul and I would love some advice. We're planning on replacing the backsplash, light fixtures and sink. I wanted to do a brick backsplash but I'm a little concerned it would make the kitchen too dark. Now I'm thinking maybe I could either knock out above the wall above the sink and lose the cabinets on the top right. Or I could take out the entire wall and all cabinets above the sink. I have plenty so I don't think I'd miss them too much. Would it look strange to have the open space when the room behind it was converted from a garage and is lower than the rest of the house? Would the hole be awkwardly placed from that side? Our thermostat is right there so I also don't know if the electrical situation would be a headache. And it seems like it may be load bearing..? I'm only looking to spend $2000 or so and have absolutely no idea how big of expense this could be. I'm planning on talking to a contractor of course, but would love opinions on whether this would even be a good idea or too awkward looking. The kitchen opens up to a keeping room on other side of island so I'm also wondering if the island and then a big open space over sink plus seeing a big faucet sticking up from the other side may also be strange?

A former owner of our home added on a very large family room to the backside of the kitchen - there was a window over the kitchen sink, so when the new room was built they simply removed the window and framed up the opening. They mounted a little ledge as you can see I have a small plant setting there.

Here’s a view of the faucet from my family room. I’m not a huge fan but I don’t hate it enough to wall it up.

Oops. I thought I did in the post. Here is the other side. You can see how high the countertop goes on the other side.

Thank you for the picture!! That doesn't look bad at all.

Well, no, it doesn’t look bad. I dislike it because of the noise factor and the informality.

DH’s chair sets about 5’ from the opening, and water running in the sink, the microwave operating, and various other kitchen noises bother him. I don’t like the view of all the kitchen stuff (things on the counter, pictures on the frig, dishes in the sink, etc etc) from the family room.

2000 will be a drop in the bucket if you have to have a big beam installed because of it being load bearing. You would be better off to have someone come and give an estimate so you are not planning on something that you may not ever do. Depending on beam size etc. It can be in the thousands.

That is good to know... I honestly had no idea what kind of money this would entail. Thank you.

You could just reopen the window area. I know people call that old fashioned, but you would not be looking at the wall.

Hi. im in middle of a kitchen redo also. i just opened my entrance way by 20 inches. You can widen it for more open feeling without losing all that cabinet space. By the way….its going to cost a lot of money!

We knocked down our wall when we re-did pir kitchen. We did it ourselves, we were quoted over 2k but this included disposal. Glad we did it ourselves.
