Condenser won't kick on after using heat. What could be the issue?

After I turn the heat on in my home, when I turn the thermostat back to cool the condenser doesn't kick on unless I kick start it using the "test" button on the condenser mother board. Once it kicks on its fine untill I need to use the heat again. Anyone have an idea what the issue could be?

A model and serial number may be helpful. Maybe a faulty thermostat or somwthing with the wire sending the signal for cooling is my guess.

Thanks, I'll try swapping the thermostat and see if that fixes it.

I wouldn't go getting another thermostat until you have a better idea of what's going on. Make and model. Heatpump, furnace?
