Hi Ceri-Anne! Your room has a great potential! Is this bedroom going to remain a bedroom or are you look to convert it into something else?

In any case, I would start removing this turquoise colours, you could paint the IKEA chest of drawers to save money, I would suggest you remove what you don't really need, also adding some bedside table would be good to make it more welcoming. Are you thinking of changing the bedframe?

As ali270 says dusky pinks, a lighter wood floor, even have wallpaper behind the bed. Artex has to go, but it is easily skimmed. Having had spot lighting in the bedroom it is so much neater, and you dont need many ( I had 4 and it gave enough light when required ) Im sure you will be glad to say goodbye to the blue.

Wow that’s a bright aqua! I agree it has to go as it’s not very relaxing. A soft neutral would go nicely with the dark furniture. I think sharing a picture of the current room would be easier to advise on. I think two bedside lamps would create a softer look than spotlights. You can then use a central light for the times you need more light.

I would change the colour. If you are plastering the ceiling, you could easily move the ceiling pendant centrally. Bedside lockers are a must. Would your budget stretch to an engineered wood rather than laminate. Consider insulating for noise from downstairs at the same time?

I will agree there is too much blue in this space, Although those chest of drawers and the bed still look in good condition and has potential to be reused in the space. The inclusion of a shaker-style wardrobe seems like a lovely idea as well. I liked the color of the walls, would suggest going with the same color as the other walls for the shaker cabinet to not let it stand out.

For the wall behind the bed, a deeper blue ( if it has to be blue) will go well with the dark wood furniture. I would definitely introduce a complimentary color into the space. A mustard yellow or a dusty pink shade would go really well in the space.

I would also suggest planning the space out since you are taking out the mirrored sliding doors, you would want to find a place you could hang a full-length mirror? Maybe the TV Unit could be wall mounted. You'd also want to think about the artworks hanging in the space, they seem out of proportion. The chair in the corner looks a bit too crammed on there. You probably only want a bedside table?

Since you're doing the Ceiling, I would suggest having the ceiling design with an inbuilt curtain track for a sheer and solid curtain. It looks much smarter and modern. Also makes the room visually taller with the floor-to-ceiling curtains You might also want to increase the no of ceiling lights and change the pendant light.

Since you're also planning to change the flooring, I would suggest going for a grey ish oak flooring and not a natural oak one to pair it well with the dark furniture

And the Last suggestion, I would have painted the inbuilt cupboard, side of the doors the same colour as the walls. as it stands out a lot . I would also paint the interior of the doors atleast same as the room colour or something darker ( like two tones darker than the existing wall colour or a grey ish ) as the stark white doors stand out a bit too much and will stand out with all teh dark furniture and moody vibe in the space.

i would change the bedding, curtains to something either off white or a neutral colour palette. I would swap the chest of drawers near the bed to something a little smaller such as a bedside cabinet scandi style ^^ Id also paint the blue wall white and I would add scandinavian effects because you have this lovely wood style floor! I'd defo keep the hats they could be pinned onto the backs of door or wall amongst other great scandi, boho findings :D

Ceri-Anne I agree with the soft colour suggestions above. I'd also recommend painting the woodwork the same colour as the walls to give the appearance of more height, and also so the eye isn't drawn to the triangular cupboard door. Downlights in the ceiling might be costly to install and I agree that they aren't that well suited to a bedroom. Instead I'd go with the suggestion of centring the light fixture when the ceiling is skimmed, and find a nice flush light fitting that you like the look of (it won't be on much anyway), plus some gorgeous bedside lights. And yes to the earlier suggestion of engineered wood, not laminate.

Removing mirror doors could make the room feel smaller. It’s something we are pondering with our bedroom as the new wardrobes my husband is designing won’t have mirror doors, and we know the current mirror doors give the illusion of space. Just something to consider. Maybe cover them up with paper to see how it impacts the room?
