In case anyone in the San Diego area is searching for a source of bark for the 5-1-1 mix, I finally found a place where you can buy the right size bark in bulk by the yard!

According to the representative I emailed with, the product called Mini Bark "consists of a mix of pine and fir bark that has been processed through a hog and screened to the size of 3/8” and smaller." Probably wouldn't even need to sift! $71 per cubic yard.
