Really and we are supossed to guess . We need pics BTW glazed cabinets are not ideal and to try to match a factory finish would be IMO impossible What are the defects in the cabinet ? With no context it is impossible to help.

It depends on the style of your kitchen and what the damage was. Cabinets are just boxes, they are just non decorative big boxes covered on the front with smaller fancy boxes (doors). Any carpenter of any skill can build cabinets. Finishing cabinets is another story entirely and is much harder. Matching cabinets is several levels above finishing cabinets and is incredibly difficult even for the most skilled craftsmen.

However, if you have frameless cabinets and your doors are fine it is completely reasonable that a finish carpenter make a replacement cabinet box.

As others have posted, a cabinet consists of a box and a door (or drawers).

A box is relatively easy to build and there wouldn't be issues of matching unless your cabinets were very unusual. All of my cabinets including the doors were custom built by a local cabinet company.

Is it possible for the cabinet box to be built and then just wait until the door from the company arrives. It is not a big deal to attach a door and the only downside would be having a cabinet without a door for awhile. I would go this route rather than risk having a door not match because the stain and the finish is what is critical. I lived with minor issues like this after I moved back after my gut remodel.

You might also get the company to speed up delivery of the single door under the circumstances.

Thank you Helen and bry911 for helping me to understand cabinets better. I now know what kind of questions to ask the carpenter. I think it is the box part that cracked at a joint. And the laminate on the shelves is very chipped along the front edge. And then the electrician broke a corner edge underneath when he installed the under cabinet lights.

Patricia, I am an older person with health issues and without a lot of tech abilities who is very stressed and anxious because of so many problems with this remodel that is supposed to help me age in place. Your rudeness only added to my stress today.

From your description, the box and the shelf would be relatively easy for a competent craftsperson to do. My shelves are clad in formica - it is a pretty basic skill. You should ask how he would make the boxes match the others since you would see the front of the box when you open a door and if the doors aren't full overlay, you would also see a portion of the box.

As posted by myself and others, it is the the door that would be almost impossible to duplicate because you would want to have it be absolutely identical to the other doors.

As long as you can function in the kitchen, don't delay based on cosmetic issues such as a missing door. The door is installed after the boxes are hung on the wall anyway.

I didn't have cabinets even installed on either side of my stove because the hood was the wrong size and had to be remade and the installer didn't want to install those cabinets until the hood was installed - which also delayed finished a portion of the backsplash. But I had cabinets, a sink, a refrigerator and my trusty toaster oven so I was fine until the kitchen was complete with hood and those two upper cabinets
