It's best if the border is kept simple and not follow the shape of the room.

Really depends on the herringbone..... part of the allure of a border is to force a herringbone into a desired layout I would prioritize the herringbone layout and let that determine how i border it.

Trying to determine if each room (laundry & half bath) should have its own border and whether or not the border follows the walls. In other words, would you continue the border into a small closet? Here are some pre-renovation images that may be helpful.

I would recommend doing herringbone in the laundry (since you want herringbone), and let the half bath be all in the border area, following @Beverly's guidance.

Edited to add: Now that I look at your pictures more closely, I don't see a reason to do herringbone. You don't have the open floor space to actually see it and enjoy it. You might as well save the upgrade cost on the installation. But that is my opinion. If you still want herringbone after thinking about that, please consider the first part of my response!

Maybe these pics will help you make a decision. You can run the brick straight thru with no borders if you like.

Yes, BeverlyFLADeziner, these photos are very helpful, especially the one that shows how the two room are joined! Thank you for finding and posting. Our space is narrow for sure; however, it will resemble the photo of the entryway that you posted. Should look fine. I posted another photos below in case my previous photo didn't show the floor. It's an L-shaped space. The sink, washer, dryer, and half bath are to the right of this space.

Perhaps we'll just put the border on this part of the "L" as it is the entrance and leads straight into the kitchen and looks out to floor-to-ceiling windows with a view. Would it look odd to have the other part of the "L" (where the sink, washer, dryer, and bathroom entrance are located) in Herringbone but without a border?

Adding a border IMO will visually narrow your space. It might be better to run the brick without the border. Have you thought about cleaning brick flooring? Can be a challenge

Don’t do a border, as Beverly said, it will make the space seem even narrower.
