Thanks Patricia for the comment. I've looked at these Frigidaire columns, and I agree they are a great buy, but I just don't have that much room. However, honestly I don't see the difference between yours (which look great) and the ones on the website I linked. My frig doesn't need much air space - 3/8" on each side, and the grille would take care of the top clearance.

Verbo, please keep your rude, inaccurate commentary to yourself - I'm not a "shill" - I'm a homeowner, about to remodel my kitchen, and was specifically asking if anyone on the site has used these and what their experience was - wondering if they look like the ones on the product website. I find them attractive (others can disagree), but that's not what I was asking about.

What part is the trim?

It looks like there are side pieces and a top piece. I would check and see if the side pieces would interfere with the circulation required round a freestanding refrigerator, or whether the vent on the top is enough.

The thing that concerns me is that I think the pictures look very photoshopped. I would definitely want the samples.

palimpsest- is the trim kit metal pieces on the top and bottom and sides of the fridge?

Does it include the cabinets on top?

It looks like two side pieces to cover the gap between the fridge and the cabinets or panel to each side. Then a louvered or paneled piece for a large gap at the top. Nothing on bottom.

Those are interesting. It almost looks like they are designed to make a regular free standing ref look more like the built in models do. I would worry a little about the finish. Maybe order their sample pack and see what you think of the color. Keep in mind - you will lose that cabinet storage ( or some of it depending on your ceiling height ) above the ref. That louvered piece on top of a 70" high ref will probably bring the top of the ref to about 84" ( the height of your typical built in model ).

Also the cabinet for the refrigerator will have to be extra deep to accommodate the depth of even a counterdepth model and work with the trim

So, you need to pull out the fridge to have the condenser adjusted -- what happens to the flush trim? Is one just giving up on ever sweeping underneath? etc.

We keep some large trays and a slew of take-out menus in the gap on top of our fridge, so I'd hate to lose it -- if you build out the surround to the depth you need, the fridge already looks pretty built in, and you don't really see the gap on top when standing in front of it.

We needed to replace a 42" built-in refrigerator, an 18 year old Dacor that the new Samsung owners of the Dacor brand no longer support.
