Need help with lighting options - vaulted ceiling.

We are looking to update the traditional track lighting in our living room. We have vaulted ceilings with beams and desire something more modern. I’m having the hardest time even imagining what my options are. Our home is a split level with a modern vibe. Open to any and all suggestions!
Please ignore the dust - just had our stairs redone (still waiting on the glass railing as you can kind of see in the pic) and there is dust everywhere.

Dani, the lighting seems to basically blend in.

    Recessed lighting.

Thank you, everdebz. Perhaps I’m so focused on just updating it since we’re updating everything else but maybe it’s ok as is.

Itsourcasa, I do like the look of recessed lighting. Appreciate the mock up and idea for layout!

I think the track blends well. We have vaulted ceilings so I get how hard it is to find the lights you want. If you keep the track lighting take a look at the Soraa bulbs. 95 CRI and they make everything look better. Expensive but good. I just put some in my studio and plan to put them in my house. Perhaps keep the track and change the bulbs? In the end the light that a fixture emits is what matters most.

@Dani we have the same, we actually had zero lighting in our living room with a vaulted ceiling and added recessed between the beams.

Recessed lighting with gimbled heads (that can be leveled), wall sconces, up lights, hanging fan w light,....

A wall sconce above the TV would look great too.

Have you considered/ceiling allowing, a large chandelier.

Oooh Maureen, I love the thought of a chandelier. Would definitely create more visual interest and draw the eye to the ceiling. Thanks!

Are those beams hollow rather than solid wood? You could install recessed lights in them.

In most vaults like this you CANNOT do recessed lighting there is simply no room for the can or the electrical because of the vault. Typically this is why the track is used.

    1. TAKE THE EXISTING TRACK HEAD DOWN SO YOU KNOW WHAT TYPE OF CONNECTION TO BUY.

    2. REPLACE THE TRACK HEADS ONLY WITH SMALLER DISCRETE ONES.

    3. IF YOU WANT A CHANDELIER YOU CAN POWER IT OFF THE TRACK AND JUST SWAG IT OVER TO WHERE YOU WOULD WANT IT TO HANG. JUST AS ADDITIONAL NOT THE SOLE LIGHTING FOR THE SPACE.

The idea of putting recessed here kills me the architecture of the home deserves more than that IMO

@RL Relocation LLC there is recessed lighting now that doesn't have a can.

@itsourcasa Yes, but they still need to be able to run wires, very hard with no attic, they also need enough room for put it pancake junction boxes. Those are called wafers and they still need to attach to something, I did say most vaults but knowing this house is a bit older it could be impossible or very costly.

We also have vaulted ceilings. Our kitchen is open to the family room. I chose to do recessed lighting ( along with under-cabinet and uplighting above cabinets) in the kitchen and breakfast nook and used a chandelier along with sconces in the family room. I like that the chandelier helps to define the family room space.
