Large Kitchen Orientation Help

We are finalizing floor plans for our home and would love to get opinions on our kitchen. I think everything is where it needs to be but I am second guessing a bit. We plan to have seating for 4 around the island and potentially add a prep sink to island to help with triangle. Any opinions?

You may want to move the stove a closer to the sink… imagine carrying a pot of water to the sink from the stove. And a pull out trash bin somewhere between them both. I’d add more seating over hang around the island ( in yellow)?

    1) What Chris said about the stove and sink distance.

    2) You should swap the sink and DW placement--DW between cooktop and sink is a daily hassle. Making that swap helps close some of the distance.

    3) What is the other item between the sink and cooktop? Under-counter oven? Wall oven stack? Fridge? If it's an undercounter oven, I'd lightly suggest swapping the cooktop and oven, maybe with both moved down a bit for a little bit more space between sink and cooktop. If it's a taller oven stack or fridge, then I would strongly suggesting swapping. You want uninterrupted counter between sink and cooktop. That's an important prep zone.

Thanks for these great suggestions. Will definitely swap sink with DW. We are doing a range with oven under so will have uninterrupted space between the sink and cooktop. May also add a prep sink to island to help with that space.

Actually flip your pantry and put the fridge in the corner. Then add a prep sink in the island short side. Can't tell how wide it is to make sure a prep sink would fit there, but that will make it so you have a good compact working area and your island won't be a barrier.

The sink/dishwasher wall has all windows above the counter, is that correct? Will that mean walking every clean dish across to the range or the refrigerator wall to put them away?

You want to funnel traffic through your mudroom so people will actually use it. And you want to avoid traffic through your kitchen triangle. So, this:

What is the vision for the pantry? Placed between the kitchen and dining room like that only makes sense if it's a butler's pantry. Not ideal for storing the canned goods, extra pasta, etc. And that's a tight passage, unless guests are expected to stay in the dining room and only staff pass between the kitchen and the dining room.

I agree with emilyam819's goals, but I'm not sure how her change improves things. Funneling traffic past the fridge, as in in the original plan, seems better than funneling past the cleanup area. Maybe I'm not understanding her full plan.

If I understand your plan correctly (not 100% sure where the fridge is but i think it’s on the other side of the pantry?), then i agree with anj_p. Then that would be the layout of my new kitchem, with the prep sink on the short side of the island. Adding the prep sink there and having the fridge where it is were game changers for me. Photos attached if it helps.

My idea makes the island not a barrier to the work triangle of fridge-prep sink- stove. It would help to see a plan of the whole floor to examine traffic patterns.

I don't have anything to add but this layout is a lot like the one I am planning so I appreciate everyone's thoughts.

nycbluedevil_gw, what is the size of your island? Beautiful kitchen!
