Let’s Decorate My Bedroom

In the new house, my bedroom wants new bedding and decor. I am keeping the bed and new nightstands and would like to use the blue velvet curtains. I can add a border on the bottom and raise them. I would like to paint the room navy - or are accent walls still a thing?

Glo European - I love the way you did that. Thank you so much! Mark and Maureen - Thank you for your advice and I am going to go in and pull out some of the other things in my closet that I have that are very similar that I love, to what you have shown in those pictures. You are right, the bedding option I posted that I like does not give that RL look. Which is probably why I haven’t pulled the trigger on it. I did have the dark wine red in the back of my mind because I have some RL bedding items from way back, that I can also find on eBay since they are discontinued, but I loved loved way back. Let me pull them out and take a picture to see what you think. Namely, the comforter in Maureen’s photo, I have a blue and white ticking striped chair, maybe I could pull that in. Let me go do that!!

Ok, so here is what I used to have many years ago and have always loved. I am missing pieces but can get everything again. But if I can pull in more of the blue that is in the paisley sheets I would love that.

I have the duvet cover and shams

Having trouble posting the photos. Grrr….

Trying again. I have this rug and chair

This is soooo frustrating!! Now I can’t get pictures to post. I have saved them all in an idea book also.

Let’s try a whole different way.

And I have green. I have the green plaid duvet cover also.

    Love the rich colors!

I am beginning to see it.

That beautiful rug will tie it all together. Can’t wait to see your finished space!

With the Navy curtain I wouldn't do a Navy wall that room isn't that wide I would hang the picture at the foot of the bed on that wall and I would paint the walls tannish color

It’s a great color combination and try out different combinations; bring home and test with what you have.

I edited above; excuse crazy phone.

I have ordered the red and blue paisley sheets. But the rug is a bit too small. I will order the bigger one just like it.

I think I will get a bed ruffle to fill space under the comforter too.

What can I do furniture placement-wise? Move the bed left or right for a chair. I have the blue ticking chair and the red leather chair in pics above. Once I get the other sheets I can pull in more blue I think. And lamps? And art above bed? And these are the cheapest ugliest doors ever.

You can add molding to the doors.

A bed ruffle is not going to suit your bed, if possible a wider comforter would be much nicer.

I’d put large art on the opposite wall and would hold off (lamps as well) until bedding/rug are finalized and bed location is determined.

Nothing above bed and you could move it down towards entrance so you have room for chair in a corner by window and maybe place mirror next to it.

Add molding to doors, paint white and change handles.

I have the perfect mirror. I was wondering what to do with it. The corner near the foot of the bed correct? Would one of these work?

    Or this?

They are both great. The leather feels more masculine, while striped is lighter/ taking up less visual space. Try both and live with each for a day or two.

If bed is moved down, the accessorized corner may be move appreciated/will balance that wall and good to be opposite small dresser on other side. It’s really about experimenting. Have fun.

    how about these lamps?

That lamp with work and I like where your bed is currently

Texture is nice, but did you want black and are they large enough?https://homedecorbliss.com/what-size-lamp-for-nightstand/

They are large, I thought that other one was black but it’s blue so no, not black

    A lucky find!

    looove the nightstands

I can’t wait to trim out the double doors.

Ok. The red and blue paisley sheets and pillow cases came. I need to get the leopard print flat sheet and need to pull more blue into the room. My dad picked up this picture at an auction while buying antiques so I was thinking of putting it over the nightstand.

Excuse the mess. Still unpacking and finding places to put things!

Lean the art over the nightstand for now and see if it works, while you keep decorating the room. No need to hang it till your are sure.

If using, I’d keep the lamps you have for now, as the ones you were looking at don’t suit and be sure to find a similar brass styled frame for other side.

Ok with bedding chosen, I am going to keep this comforter and I have a dust ruffle coming. I am going to attach the ruffle to the duvet cover to widen it. What can I do paint wise. Can I find lamps and art after or do I need art first?

Never buy art to "go" with decoration, or to "fill a space." Buy art only if you love it so much that you will keep it for the rest of your life, and you will find a place for it in your home. A broad matte or wide frame can make it easier to feel at home in more spaces, but that is secondary to choosing. Good luck creating a space you will be delighted to awaken in!

I got the dust ruffle the other day and cut the ruffle off and sewed it to the edge of the comforter since the comforter was already a king. I like the way it turned out. I also pulled the blue from the fitted sheet and pillow cases to add a blue flat sheet. I got a wall mounted jewelry case that mimics the two mirrors in the room but now it seems like there are too many mirrors and no wall decor. Still looking for thoughts on lamps, paint color and wall decor. I will get a new frame for the wedding picture on the nightstand.

    Oops pics here

Put that floor mirror next to your dresser over by the door attach it to the wall so your pet doesn't knock it down

Nice job with the ruffle. I don’t know why they don’t make sheets, comforters, etc big enough.

There is a whole lot of wall space and I am at a loss as to what to put on them!

Hi Terri. Any updates? I’m interested because I too am trying to finish my bedroom.

No new changes. I am still trying to figure out a paint color and what to put on the walls.

I find decorating the walls with art difficult. I want to choose something that will make me smile everytime I look at it. As for paint color, it took me months to choose paint colors for my home. It was worth taking the time to decide.

I like SW snowbound paint color it's so nice shade it's not a white and it's not a big age and it really gives a nice warm glow

This color of paint will go with your Navy drapes
