Head banger fixture

last modified: 4 years ago

I ran across this bath fixture in a listing. As you can see the ceilings are maybe 7 ft. The track for the door is at the ceiling and there is a smoke detector for reference.

Not only is it low it is not over the vanity. I don't think it's an optical illusion, these are two different photos, not one cropped

This is not a new house, but a gut rehab so the ceiling height is grandfathered.

I hope that outlet is on a GFIC at the box or on a GFIC string.

It look likes it might be situated where you can't be under it when standing. It may be over the vanity but closer to the front of the vanity. I think it looks kinda nice like that.

Actually if you drop a line from the post of the picture it falls in front of the edge of the vanity: a photo will not provide an exact Brunelleschian mechanical perspective, but if you draw the perspective lines in you can still get pretty close

I think the light fixture goes well with the bathroom; barn door, vanity in shower opening, tiny mirror in a picture frame, overly accessible toilet water supply valve, free standing toilet paper holder, black electrician tape looking grid on glass, slippery shower floor, poor electrical outlet location, and the light fixture that the home owner can bang their head against so they do not damage the wall.

Not a bathroom, but DS just moved into an apartment with 3 pendant lights over the kitchen counter. He’s 6’ tall, and hits his head on them when he washes dishes, preps, or leans across to get a plate from the eating side.

Best post of the day, Mark Bischak.

@Mark Bischak, Architect, it's a flip, so they are trying their hardest to hit on all the trends of the moment on the lowest budget possible. I can't say too much about this layout except that these houses are very small. The LOT is 380 sq, feet and there is a yard. So very small footprint. There is a bath and a small bedroom on each upper floor with a set of extremely code non-compliant stairs linking all three levels. (It's also $675K)

It just needs a tennis ball on the pointy end of the pendant......or a height restriction.

Our remodel contractor was very tall and with 8’ ceilings no low hanging pedants. Spoue is also over 6’2”. So I “think” like a tall person and prefer open sight lines. My dining fixture is from Houzz and provides depth, but not intrusive.

Mark Bischak, don't forget hair dryer usage. I’d break that light fixture in the first round, being tall and right handed. Great post.

Being so short, bumping into an overhead light fixture is impossible for me. However, I wouldn’t be able to see a thing in that mirror.

Ya know.....I like the light fixture....but it makes NO SENSE hung there! lol

After moving into our newly built house we had a flood in the utility room to the kitchen. Our DR is next to the kitchen, with the light fixture centered over the DR table.

When DH and a friend started moving appliances out of the kitchen they had to move the DR table, and in the process DH hit his head on the light fixture and had to go to the ER for stitches.

I'm distracted by how ridiculously tiny that mirror is.
