Another one that thrives in Florida as well! A favorite in the garden. It does require some protection from black spot here. Grows quite large, and always in bloom.

I'm glad to hear from you about this lovely rose. I have seen her at Annie's Annuals and I have a spot or two where she would show off really well. I am hoping she comes available at Annie's soon as I have an order ready to place and want to add Grandmothers Hat.
I would be happy to hear anything about her that you can tell me! Does she repeat well?

My garden is way North of Jeri's, in the Northern SF Bay area, but my GH is starting to bloom now. It blooms from now until Fall here, and is very fragrant (old rose fragrance), and is healthy. I have three now, because every few years it puts out new plants as root suckers, and I just dig them up and plant them. Once I stuck a pruning cutting into the soil and kept watering it, and it rooted! So, very easy to get new plants.

That sounds like a great rose, Jeri and Jackie. Thank you for sharing your personal experience with GH. I hope to grow her as a large shrub with a natural, full shape. I hope she does as well for me here in zone 8 AZ as she does for you two in California. Black spot isn't really an issue here.

Judi, she should do well, she's a tough old bird. I think, in AZ, you might place her where she had some afternoon shade. (North AZ? Or South AZ?)

JACKIE! We do the same thing. That's why we have maybe 12 plants of it.

Jeri, I'm in Southern Arizona at 4300 ft elevation; hence the zone 8 instead of 9 or 10 as most people expect when they think of S. Arizona. And yes, the one bush should get afternoon shade from a nearby Mesquite tree. The other one will pretty much be full sun. It will be interesting to see the difference between the two. I am impressed that yours is blooming at this time of year!

In case anyone else is interested, Grandmother's Hat is available at Annie's Annuals today! I have no idea how long it will be available, because the helpful person I talked to this week on the phone told me it's in high demand, never enough to go around. I promptly ordered the two I wanted. They won't ship for several weeks yet, but that's ok. I can wait. I know from past experience with their roses that they will be small plants and take some patience anyway!
