I like option 2.

We did three and they felt quite giant for a second. And the bits of symmetry that were off aren’t even noticeable to me anymore much less anyone who visits. Our counter is 9 feet and the lights are almost 18 inches if that helps in your decision. Have you hung any balloons from the ceiling yet? Might help.

I love the lights you have in the picture. We are building a new house and are going crazy trying to pick lights - especially for the kitchen. Our island is also 9ft long - and we've been unsure about size of lights for over it. Would you be willing to share brand/model of you lights? Thanks!!

Forget the pendants. Do good recessed lights instead. Or 1 single linear fixture. The unbalanced island will never work with symmetrical pendant lighting.

Option 2 (only 2 lights), then option 1( centered on range hood). Opt 4 a no go for me.

look at the image on this thread, this is why I say two.

You don't have to have pendants. In previous threads when people have done polls about pendants or no pendants, the replies are usually 50/50.

If you want your hood and items on the shelves to be the main elements, then I would just do recessed lights.

If you really want pendants, then just do 2.

I skipped pendants in my previous kitchen because I wanted the antique brass hood to be the item that caught your eye and I had a sloped ceiling that complicated things.

The house I just built, I also skipped pendants over the island because I wanted people to look through the kitchen to the 3 large windows over the sink and did not want their eye to be stopped by pendants blocking the view. I did do 2 pendants in front of the 2 flanking windows.

There is no right or wrong way, just decide what you want to be the focal point.
