First order of business is for you to discover your style. In top (HOUZZ) search box, put in different styles (one at a time - in photos), such as eclectic, rustic, transitional. Note what you like and don't like. A ceiling light in the bedroom is not optimal. Much better is a table lamp or wall sconce in each corner at chest height. Art is very personl. Take your time picking that out. See if you can find a local artist. Bedrooms don't have to be colorful to be interesting. They should be restful but full of texture and different materials. See examples of casual bedroom styles below.

Make sure your lamps are tall enough to provide the correct light for reading.
