What is the jutting down box at the end of this strip of plug molding? Is there another way to have these plug molds where that box is shorter and the same height as the plug mold strip?

The electrician just installed under cabinet lighting and plug molds. My cabinet maker is now going to make a custom matching panel to go underneat the cabinet making the bottom of the cabinet, lights, and plug mold all on the same level surface. It sounds nice, but there is going to be the box jutting down 1 1/4" below the surface.

Is there a way to reduce the height of that box - maybe it was just what the electrician had on him at the moment and he could come back and put a shallower one on?

Or is that magical thinking and I should just not be so damn picky and live with a 1 1/4" box popping out of the bottom of the cabinet surface?
